Position Summary:

Western is seeking experienced concrete finisher/cement masons.  With supervision, replaces construction joint material with cement or caulking, in accordance with generally accepted standards of the craft.  Some of the duties and responsibilities include commercial caulking/window glazing, waterproofing, wall and floor coatings, structural concrete repairs and masonry. 


Workers should be able to:

  • Will have the ability to perform overhead and vertical hand patching of concrete.
  • Will have experience working with shotcrete, saw-cutting concrete, prepping of concrete for caulking, caulking and expansion joint installation.
  • Will have experience with finishing latex concrete, rapid repair mortar, removing delaminated concrete and cleaning and treating of rusted steel.
  • Ability to pour and level horizontal concrete and be familiar with the use of edgers, groovers, bull-float and vibrator.
  • Ability to smooth the surface of new concrete, broom finish to prevent slipping and stamping or texture finishing of new concrete is a plus.
  • Follow specific directions; perform a variety of duties which may often change; work within standards of accuracy; repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure; evaluate information using measurable standards.
  • Identify existing and predictable hazards to work surroundings, including working conditions that are unsanitary, hazardous or dangerous to employees and immediately report same to direct supervisor.
  • Must be able to demonstrate sufficient reading, writing and math skills to comprehend and explain company safety policies and material instruction.
  • Communicate effectively with fellow workers.
  • Physically, workers must be able to stand or walk for long periods; lift and carry materials weighing 50 pounds or more; climb ladders, scaffolds and other objects carrying tools and equipment; and see (naturally or with correction).
  • An ability to work at heights, extreme temperatures and to wear company's safety equipment is essential.


  • Possess skills required to perform concrete and/or masonry restoration tasks including concrete patching, tuckpointing, brick replacement, caulking.
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Practical construction experience preferred
  • Must have own "hand tools of the trade"
  • May be required to work weekends, nights, out of town and at heights.
  • Must have reliable transportation.


Licenses and/or certifications may be required for specific tools and equipment, vehicles and scaffolding.
